Didi adjusts the pricing method and cancels the 20% commission on the driver’s side
Beijing Times (Reporter Hao Shaoying) After reaching a cooperation with Uber, Didi Chuxing began to make some adjustments to the pricing method. Yesterday, Didi began to pilot a new pricing method, that is, separate pricing for drivers and passengers.
Previously, the owner could only see the flow of that order through the driver’s side after each order was completed, which did not show the actual income of the owner. After the driver and passenger were priced separately, the owner could directly check the income of each order. At the same time, the billing method of the driver’s side also has some adjustments. The 20% commission for each order previously charged to the driver’s side has been cancelled. The billing per kilometer on the driver’s side has been reduced from 1.8 yuan to 1.44 yuan, and the billing per minute on the driver’s side has been reduced from 0.5 yuan to 0.4 yuan. In addition, each order is charged an information fee of 0.5 yuan, plus a management fee of 1.77%. These two charges also existed before the adjustment.
Putting aside the information fees and management fees that have not been adjusted, taking Beijing as an example, the order travels 10 kilometers for 20 minutes. Before the adjustment, the owner’s income from the order was (1.8 × 10 + 0.5 × 20) × 80% = 15.2 yuan; after the adjustment, the owner’s income from the order was (1.44 × 10 + 0.4 × 20) × 100% = 15.2 yuan, which did not actually change.
Didi also said that after this adjustment, the income of car owners has not changed compared with before. The income of car owners in some cities will also increase with the separation of drivers and passengers, which can increase by about 10% -18%.
Since the income of car owners has not changed, why does Didi say that the income of some drivers will increase? The reason is that the driver’s income was previously affected by the total flow. If Didi subsidizes passengers during a certain period of time, the total flow will decrease, and the income of car owners will also decrease. After adjustment, the income of car owners will no longer be affected by fluctuations in the passenger side.
In addition, the adjustment of Didi’s pricing method is mainly aimed at the driver side, with little impact on the passenger side.
As for why this pricing adjustment was made, Didi said that after Didi merged with Uber China, a large number of media reports on Didi’s price increase (Didi said it was just a normal price dynamic adjustment, and there was no price increase) made Didi owners confused about the pricing method. Some owners expressed their desire for a more transparent pricing method to Didi Chuxing.
Zhu Wei, deputy director of the Communication Law Research Center of China University of Political Science and Law and an expert member of the Sharing Economy Working Committee of the Internet Association of China, told the media that the adjustment of the pricing method made by Didi company further illustrates the difference between online car-hailing and traditional taxis. It is not a disguised form of money, nor a tap, but a manifestation of the sharing economy. This also reflects the requirements of the new policy of "differentiated operation" of special cars, not only for passengers and owners, but also for the difference in revenue sharing. This will force taxi reform.
The owner’s reaction
You can see the intuitive income and feel at ease
The reporter asked last night, a number of Didi Express drivers, they all said that the first day of adjustment is still a little unaccustomed, "just looking at the amount feels like the cost of each order has been reduced", Didi owner Master Liu told reporters that although the previous display is not the actual income of the driver, but the amount seems to be higher than the income shown now, after the adjustment is still a little unsuitable psychologically, after all, intuitively the number is declining. However, Master Liu said that after all, the adjustment has just been made, and Didi pays the owner once a week, and the comparison can only be made after the checkout.
In the opinion of the owner, Master Li, this pricing method is better than the previous one. "In the past, Didi did activities, and the water was deducted from the vouchers and then charged proportionally. The actual income obtained by the driver was very small, and the algorithm was not clear.
